A Little Bit About Mont Rouge Olive Estate - A Little Karoo olive farm with a big heart

An elevation of about 250m above sea level, limy soils and abundance of mountain spring water, makes for a perfect Mediterranean terroir for olive cultivation. Orchards consist of Mission, Frantoio, Kalamata, Leccino, Coratina, Manzanilla, Favoloza and Nocellara cultivars.

The Estate is situated 12kms East of the village of Vanwyksdorp on route R1661 to Calitzdorp – in the heart of the Little Karoo. Previously operated as a mechanised lucerne farm, since 2006 it has been converted to olive farming which is probably the most labour intensive of all fruit farming enterprises providing much needed employment in this district.

Olives are handpicked at optimal ripeness and the oil extracted cold to achieve extra virgin quality. Table olives undergo a process of slow fermentation of 12-14 months. You can be assured of a product that has been preserved by limestone filtered mountain water, and salt of the earth – only.
